Google Adds Mobile Ad Preview

AdWords clients can see how their ads look on a mobile device, and even observe how they would appear to viewers on different carriers in other countries.

A new service from Google provides an ad preview for mobile devices. This testing page allows advertisers to see how their message looks on multiple platforms.

Brad Geddes at eWhisper.net complimented the design for its segmentation controls. These permit the marketer to view a mobile ad by country & carrier, by language, and by markup code. The tool supports carriers in 13 countries.

In January, Google began laying the groundwork for this service. They reported on the AdWords API Blog that API Version 8 would enable "the creation and management of new ad formats such as Local Business Ads and Mobile Ads."

Search Engine Roundtable said the tool will let people view their ad without incurring a click or hurting the CTR factor.

Gambling For Fun Adverts Now Disallowed By Google AdWords UK

I reported this morning at the Search Engine Roundtable that UK Google AdWords advertisers are being notified by Google that they can no longer accept ads for any kind of gambling site. That includes gambling sites that are just for fun, have tutorials on gambling and content related to gambling.

In an email, Google said, "We will no longer take ads for sites that promote gambling related content or gambling tutorials or whose primary purpose is 'playing for fun', gambling or casino games of skill." Google added that these new rules are "simpler for everyone to understand and more in tune with users' wishes."

Variable Pricing Hits Yahoo Search Partners

Much like Google does with variable pricing for its Adsense publishers, Yahoo is now paying a variable price per click on content site clicks. Yahoo will judge the value of a click on your site and pay you accordingly for that click.

This change is being pushed out to domain parking services that use Yahoo's feed as well. In a message to its customers today, Parked CTO Donny Simonton wrote:

This is how the "quality based pricing" system will work at Parked.com. A person comes to one of your domains parked with us, they search and click out to an advertiser, Yahoo will look to see what your traffic quality score is and let's say you are an 8. The advertiser will be charged whatever an 8 is worth, if the click was originally $1.00, I was told that the click would be at least $0.80 but it could be much higher.

Google to Open Cyber Cafe in Birmingham

Internet giant Google will open a high-tech cyber-cafe on Old Woodward in downtown Birmingham, in the same building where it plans to house 150 employees of its AdWords business.

Birmingham Planning Director Jana Ecker tells WXYZ.com the company is drawing up plans for a cafe that's approximately 1,000 square feet and will likely have big-screen TVs along with wireless Internet access.

The cafe will occupy the street-level of a building near the corner of Old Woodward and Willits where Google is taking over 17,000 square feet of space.

It's unclear when the cafe and new office will open. .
